That's me, on a splitboarding adventure in the Argentinian Andes

I'm Carie, thanks for checking out my blog! These are the stories of my adventures while snowboarding, backpacking, eating, and misadventuring away around the world.

The journey began in mid-August, 2013 when I defended my Ph.D. thesis in Geobiology, hopped in my car, drove from L.A. to Portland, uploaded my dissertation, and then flew from Portland to Santiago de Chile on a $5 air miles ticket. I then traveled and adventured in South America for most of a year on savings I mostly scraped together while couch-surfing and living out of my car during my final year of my Ph.D. studies. I had a whole bucket list of fun I wanted to have, including splitboarding the Andes (check!), backpacking at the end of the world (check!), celebrating my 30th birthday with friends and family in Torres del Paine (check...post coming!), working at a sustainable/eco farm or lodge (check!), and hunting endolithic bacteria in the Atacama Desert (check!).

I returned to the U.S. in May 2014 and I now have a totally responsible adult job, but the adventures continue (even if I don't have as much time to write them all up now).

Join me!
